Prime Minister Al‑Jaidi summons National Security Council after alleged US‑Saudi air attacks

Baghdad, 29 July – After reports that U.S. and Saudi aircraft carried out strikes against Iraqi territory, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al‑Jaidi called an emergency session of the National Security Council.

The Prime Minister’s decision comes after the Popular Mobilisation Forces claimed that the raids killed twenty of its fighters and injured thirty‑two, with attacks aimed at sites in Baghdad, Wasit, Ninawa, Basra, Kirkuk, Karbala and Diyala.

The PMF also warned that the bombings damaged civilian and military infrastructure, including buildings, vehicles and weapons systems.

Al‑Jaidi’s office said the council will assess the situation, consider possible retaliatory steps and release a detailed statement outlining the government’s position.

The PMF, a semi‑official armed grouping created in 2014 to fight ISIS, has since been recognised as a regular security force and its personnel are paid by the state.
