Afghan Authorities Seize Over 1,000 Kg of Narcotics Across Multiple Provinces
Kabul, October 19 — Recent police operations across Afghanistan have resulted in the seizure of more than one metric ton of illegal drugs. In Farah province, officers publicly burned 955 kilograms of opium, hashish and 36 kilograms of methamphetamine on Sunday.
The destruction was accompanied by the arrest of a suspected trafficker, who will be transferred to the courts after a brief investigation.
Two weeks earlier, Helmand’s information and culture directorate reported the capture of 136 kilograms of opium‑related substances and the detention of three alleged smugglers. Those individuals are now awaiting trial.
Herat province added to the tally, announcing that 161 tons of assorted narcotics seized during a year‑long anti‑drug offensive were incinerated in mid‑October.
The anti‑narcotics drive has also struck manufacturing hubs. Ten processing laboratories in neighboring Ghor province were demolished, and large caches of heroin‑production material were confiscated.
Afghan officials maintain that the campaign will persist until the country, long identified with opium cultivation, can eliminate the drug trade entirely.
