Afghan Authorities Burn More Than Three Tons of Illicit Narcotics in Public

On 30 September, officials in Takhar province set fire to over three tonnes of seized narcotics in a public ceremony. The destroyed stock included three tons of opium, 198 kilograms of hashish and 175 stimulant tablets known locally as “tablet ke.”

The burning took place in the presence of provincial governors, local administrators and community members, symbolising the government's zero‑tolerance stance on drug trafficking.

According to police spokesperson Nakibullah Masroor, the destroyed drugs had been collected during multiple operations across the province over the previous months. He emphasized that the crackdown would continue until the drug economy is crippled.

The public incineration aims to deter smugglers and reassure citizens that law‑enforcement agencies are actively targeting the production, transport and distribution of illegal substances.
