Admiral Swaminathan’s Auckland Visit Aims to Deepen Naval Cooperation

Following successful meetings in Australia, Admiral Krishna Swaminathan reached Auckland with a clear objective: to strengthen the naval relationship between India and New Zealand. The Admiral will engage with senior officials of the Royal New Zealand Navy and the country's defence leadership.

Key discussion points are expected to cover joint operational planning, exchange of intelligence, training programmes and professional exchanges. The itinerary also includes visits to major New Zealand naval training centres and a meeting with naval officers undergoing advanced military education.

The visit is viewed as a continuation of the strategic partnership formalised during Prime Minister Modi’s July tour, which committed both nations to expanded defence and maritime cooperation. Officials anticipate that the outcomes will feed into the Maritime Cooperation Arrangement, a framework designed to boost practical sea‑based collaboration.
