Adani‑IHC aluminium project in Odisha to create 53,500 jobs, $1.08 lakh crore investment

In a ceremony held in Bhubaneswar, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd and Abu Dhabi’s International Holding Company formalised a memorandum of understanding to build an aluminium manufacturing complex in Odisha. The venture is slated for an investment of $11.5 billion, which translates to about ₹1.08 lakh crore.

The integrated complex will consist of three main units: an alumina refinery with a 4 million‑tonne capacity per year, an aluminium smelter capable of processing 2 million tonnes annually, and a downstream park that will handle another 1 million tonnes of finished aluminium. Power will be supplied by a 4,000 MW captive plant, complemented by 400 MW of renewable energy.

According to Karan Adani, the project will generate approximately 35,000 jobs during the construction phase and retain about 18,500 skilled positions once the plant becomes operational. These figures represent not just employment numbers but also a ripple effect for families, small enterprises, and regional economies.

Both parties emphasized that the collaboration reflects a long‑term commitment to Odisha’s industrial growth and to India’s ambition of becoming a key player in the global aluminium supply chain.
