Palestinian President Abbas barred from attending UN General Assembly in person

Because of the visa ban, President Mahmoud Abbas will miss the General Assembly’s General Debate in person for the second consecutive year. The United Nations General Assembly approved a resolution allowing him to join the debate virtually, a move adopted a day after the U.S. State Department announced the refusal to grant visas to Abbas and other Palestinian leaders.
