In a bold strike against terrorism, Somali National Army forces wiped out 50 Al-Shabaab fighters and injured many more during a coordinated assault on the fringes of Baidoa in Southwest State. The Defense Ministry confirmed the Thursday operation's success on Friday, highlighting the destruction of enemy technical vehicles, arms depots, and logistical gear. The raid exposed alleged ties between Al-Shabaab and armed militias loyal to ex-Southwest State head Abdiaziz Hassan Mohammad. While Mohammad rejects the accusations, Somalia's leadership is drawing a hard line against any collaboration that jeopardizes security. 'We will not tolerate the use of weapons or militias for political purposes that weaken our nation,' the ministry declared. Strict legal measures promise to target terror enablers and safe-house providers. Echoing recent victories, this comes after April's operation in Lower Shabelle, where 22 militants fell, including commander Kabdiraxman Giri, known for instilling fear in communities. Airstrikes and ground troops made short work of the threat there. International cooperation has been pivotal, and the ministry thanked allies for bolstering these stability missions. Future campaigns will escalate under a comprehensive plan to neutralize Al-Shabaab entirely. Al-Shabaab, ousted from the capital over a decade ago, persists in countryside hideouts, conducting hit-and-run attacks and IED placements. Somalia's forces are methodically closing in to end this insurgency.
