2027 Winter Universiade Details: Dates, Sports and New Cross‑Country Event
The 33rd Winter Universiade will take place in Changchun, China, from January 15 to 25, 2027. Jointly organized by the neighboring cities of Changchun and Jilin, the ten‑day festival will showcase twelve disciplines across 97 medal events.
A noteworthy addition to the schedule is the winter cross‑country skiing competition, marking its first appearance at a Universiade. Other core winter sports such as ice hockey, figure skating, and alpine skiing will return, providing a broad platform for student‑athletes.
Preparation for the games has already been signaled by the torch lighting ceremony in Turin on October 8, where the flame was officially handed to the Chinese organizers. The ceremony highlights the enduring partnership between Turin, the longtime custodian of FISU’s flame, and the host cities in China.
