China’s intellectual property sector hit record highs in 2025, positioning the nation as a global innovation powerhouse. At a key press briefing, Deputy Director Rui Wanpiao highlighted how high-value invention patents climbed to 2.292 million.
Rapid expansion shone in IT management, computing, and biotech, with valid invention patents multiplying swiftly. China’s AI patent portfolio stands unrivaled worldwide, a crown jewel in its IP arsenal.
Granting milestones included 972,000 invention patents and 1.461 million utility models. Over 96,000 reexamination and invalidation requests were settled, enhancing efficiency.
Applications for patent transfers and licenses reached 697,000, growing 13.7% from the previous year. Academic and research bodies submitted around 90,000, up 16.6%, driving tech transfer. Industrialization of enterprise inventions reached 54%, a stable upward trend spanning multiple years.
IP royalty trade volume from January-November hit 3.8287 trillion yuan, rising 7.4% overall, with exports leaping 23.1%. This surge propelled China’s service exports forward, cementing its role in the international IP economy.
