18 Deals Signed as India-New Zealand Relations Deepen

The New Zealand leg of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s six‑day state visit culminated with the signing of 18 landmark agreements and ten memoranda of understanding. The documents cover sectors ranging from agriculture and fisheries to renewable energy, digital services, and education exchange.

Key pacts include a joint research initiative on marine biodiversity, a cooperation agreement for solar‑power projects, and a framework to promote student mobility between Indian and New Zealand universities. An MoU on defence logistics will enable streamlined support for joint exercises and humanitarian missions.

Economic officials highlighted that these accords are expected to catalyse investments worth hundreds of millions of dollars, further propelling the goal of a NZ$7 billion trade volume by the end of the decade. Both sides also agreed to establish a bilateral trade council that will meet annually to monitor progress and resolve bottlenecks.

Beyond commerce, the agreements reinforce cultural ties. A cultural exchange program will showcase Indian arts, music, and cuisine across New Zealand’s major cities, while New Zealand’s indigenous Maori heritage will be promoted in Indian cultural festivals.
