Tobacco free educational institutions will get certificate on August 15

Tobacco-free educational institutions in all the districts of the state will be encouraged by issuing certificates on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15. Information boards of non-smoking areas will be put up at the entry points of the schools and will be marked with a yellow stripe within a radius of 100 yards. Nodal officers will be appointed in educational institutions to make tobacco free. Tobacco users will be identified and motivated to quit tobacco in educational institutions. Guidelines have been issued by the Directorate of Public Instruction to all the Joint Director School Education in this regard to declare all the schools of the state free from cigarettes and tobacco. Smoking in public places and workplaces is prohibited as per the Tobacco Control Act. For this, all educational institutions should compulsorily display a non-smoking area board at the entry point. The sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products within 100 yards of educational institutions is prohibited. This should also be compulsorily displayed on the notice board. For this, make sure to be marked with a yellow bar within a radius of 100 yards. The guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India should be followed in all educational institutions. In coordination with the Chief Medical and Health Officer, Health Department in the district, all the educational institutions subordinate to it should be made tobacco free and nodal officers should be appointed in educational institutions for this work. On the occasion of Independence Day, 15th August, more and more tobacco-free educational institutions in all the districts should be encouraged by issuing certificates under the joint signature of the District Collector, District Education Officer, Chief Medical and Health Officer.
