Realme 5s review: 48MP camera on budget

These days, smartphone manufacturers go for small yet meaningful upgrades to their main models during the middle of its lifecycle just to keep the product more relevant with something new and something fresh. Nobody does it better than both OnePlus and Xiaomi. Realme has now also joined the fray and the first phone to get the treatment is the Realme 5. A few weeks ago, Realme announced the Realme 5s as a mild upgrade over the Realme 5 with some major work in the camera department. And it stays alongside the Realme 5 for an extra Rs 1,000.

The Realme 5s’ main highlight is the 48-megapixel camera from Samsung that replaces the 12-megapixel sensor from the Realme 5 at the back. And apart from a new Crystal Red colour, there’s no other change in the Realme 5s – it’s exactly the same phone as the Realme 5. And that means it carries over all the merits as well as the demerits of its predecessor. Is that a good thing for consumers, especially now when the budget smartphone segment under Rs 10,000 is seeing some great options from Xiaomi and Motorola?

To find it out, I used the Realme 5s for a couple of days and my conclusion isn’t a very positive one.
