Zomato Tightens Menu Standards After Food Regulator's Actions

Following a wave of regulatory scrutiny, Zomato has tightened its menu standards across India. The food‑delivery giant clarified that any restaurant listing dishes made with analog dairy will be removed from its app. This step follows recent FSSAI investigations that uncovered violations related to dairy adulteration and non‑compliance with safety norms. Zomato’s updated policy instructs partners to transition to authentic dairy ingredients or to delete analog‑based offerings entirely. Restaurants must also cross‑check product labels supplied by vendors to confirm that the information displayed to consumers is correct. CEO Aditya Mangla reiterated that Zomato’s mission is to provide healthier food options while maintaining rigorous quality checks in partnership with establishments that share the same commitment. The move coincides with statewide actions in Maharashtra that suspended licences for producers of fake analog cheese, after tests showed more than 35% vegetable‑fat contamination.
