Zero‑Commission Bharat Taxi Model Attracts 7.97 Lakh Driver‑Partners

The Bharat Taxi cooperative, a government‑backed digital mobility app, now boasts 7.97 lakh driver‑partners, referred to as Saarthi. Delhi‑NCR leads the adoption curve with 2.55 lakh partners, followed by Gujarat’s 1.01 lakh and Maharashtra’s 71,095.

Managed by the Society for Transport Cooperative Limited (STCL), the platform currently operates in three regions and plans to expand as soon as requisite operational licences, state approvals and stakeholder coordination are in place.

A hallmark of the scheme is its zero‑commission structure: no portion of a ride’s fare is taken from the driver. Instead, a modest subscription fee is collected to sustain the app’s technological infrastructure and future growth, leaving drivers with the complete fare amount.

Saarthi members receive cooperative benefits mandated by the Multi‑State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002. These benefits include subsidised health and personal accident insurance, access to SBI‑guaranteed credit, vehicle financing through banks, and regular training on digital platforms, customer service, and road safety.
