Weekly Commodity Shift: Gold Rises, Silver Surges Amid Global Uncertainty
Gold and silver are expected to chart divergent paths this week as investors react to a blend of geopolitical risk and fresh economic statistics. The spotlight will fall on Middle‑East tensions, oil price swings and the forthcoming inflation readings from the United States, China, Germany, Japan and India.
Central‑bank policy outlooks will be inferred from these inflation figures. Traders will be probing whether the Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank or other monetary authorities may tighten or ease policy in response to the data. In the United States, the latest labour‑market report and commentary from Fed officials will be key indicators of possible rate‑change timing.
Experts underline that the escalating US‑Iran standoff continues to be a decisive factor for bullion demand. The U.S. leader has signalled readiness for further military measures against Iran while also noting diplomatic advances, leaving markets uncertain about the conflict’s trajectory. The progress—or lack thereof—in Russia‑Ukraine peace talks will also shape risk sentiment.
In India’s domestic market, MCX December gold futures rose about 3 % to ₹3,682 per 10 gram, closing the week at ₹1.42 lakh. Silver futures climbed 3.15 % to ₹5,655 per kilogram, reaching ₹1.84 lakh. Overseas, COMEX gold posted a $176 gain, up 4.5 %, to $4,074.90 per ounce, while silver surged $2.60, a 5.4 % increase, to $51.94 per ounce.
The early‑week dip was driven by stronger‑than‑anticipated U.S. non‑farm payroll numbers and a rise in consumer sentiment, which strengthened the dollar and Treasury yields, weighing on precious‑metal prices. A pronounced mid‑week bounce followed as investors bought at lower levels and short sellers covered, delivering a rapid rally for both gold and silver.
