US bond buyback boost fuels crypto rally, Bitcoin climbs

A major policy announcement from the US Treasury has ignited a fresh wave of optimism in the cryptocurrency market. By committing to double the buy‑back of long‑term government bonds, the Treasury caused long‑term yields to fall, prompting investors to seek riskier assets, including Bitcoin.

The effect was immediate: Bitcoin rose 4.8% in the last 24 hours and surged 24.5% over the past week, taking the price to about $78,588 – the highest weekly rise since March 2023. The bond‑buyback also forced many traders to close short positions that were betting on a prolonged downturn, wiping out billions of dollars in bearish bets.

Gold prices mirrored the trend, climbing to their highest point since May, while analysts speculate that the Treasury’s move could dampen the US dollar, further fueling demand for alternative stores of value such as crypto.

In a related development, former President Donald Trump met with senior executives from Coinbase Global and Payward, a meeting that many interpreted as a sign of a more favorable regulatory environment for digital assets.

Institutional capital continued to pour in. Spot Bitcoin ETFs listed in the United States logged the strongest weekly inflow since January, with more than $1 billion entering 13 leading Bitcoin ETFs this week.

Despite the momentum, Bitcoin remains far below its record high of about $126,000 set in October 2025. A subsequent sell‑off drove the price down to roughly $58,642 by the end of June 2026.

Market commentators suggest that if the positive sentiment persists and institutions keep buying, Bitcoin could comfortably breach the $80,000 barrier. Nevertheless, they stress the importance of caution given crypto’s well‑known price swings.
