UIDAI Expands Offline Verification Ecosystem as Aadhaar App Grows

Delhi, 20 August – The Aadhaar application's download count has breached the 5 crore mark, a milestone announced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Thursday. The surge is a clear indicator of the public’s move toward digital identity solutions.

Through the app, Aadhaar number holders can perform a range of updates—mobile number, address, email, biometric lock/unlock, and e‑Aadhaar retrieval—directly from their phones. The platform has already facilitated more than 60 lakh mobile number updates, 15 lakh address changes, and 23 lakh email modifications.

The rapid uptake validates UIDAI’s "show, share and verify" model, granting users tighter control over their data while simplifying verification for businesses and government agencies. Since its inception in January, UIDAI has added over 200 organisations to its Offline Verification Service Entity (OVSE) roster, reinforcing a secure, consent‑driven, paper‑free verification infrastructure.

These developments align with the Digital India agenda, promising safer, more accessible public services and reinforcing citizen confidence in technology‑enabled governance.
