The upcoming festive period in India is set to become a catalyst for a massive temporary workforce expansion. Forecasts suggest a 15‑20 percent rise in recruitment during the second half of 2026, translating into roughly 200,000 to 250,000 short‑term, contract and gig positions. Sectors most affected will include e‑commerce, quick‑commerce, organized retail, logistics, hospitality, travel and consumer services. Companies are abandoning the reactive, last‑minute hiring model in favor of a proactive strategy that begins 12‑14 weeks ahead of the peak season. This early‑start approach aims to mitigate operational challenges and ensure a smooth ramp‑up. Executives note that employers are now tapping into technology‑enabled talent pools, seeking flexible workers who can be onboarded quickly and perform across multiple platforms. The seasonal hiring drive is also being used as a talent‑pipeline for future permanent roles. While traditional roles in delivery, warehouse management and field operations remain essential, new technology‑centric positions—such as dark‑store inventory controllers, return specialists, customer‑solution officers, marketplace operations experts, fraud‑prevention agents, catalog managers and order‑management analysts—are emerging rapidly.
