Telecom Providers Must Enforce 9‑SIM Cap from August 2026

Starting 24 August 2026, telecom service providers will be required to enforce a nine‑SIM ceiling for every subscriber, as per the latest DoT directive. Providers must adopt appropriate technical solutions and internal procedures to detect attempts to breach the limit. When a customer reaches the nine‑SIM threshold, the operator must communicate the restriction and deny any additional SIM issuance. Any mobile connections that remain active beyond the prescribed limit will be suspended instantly, and the suspension will continue until the compliance issue is cleared.
