Gujarat is witnessing an unmistakable acceleration in electric vehicle uptake, fueled by a combination of lower ownership costs and an expanding network of charging stations. Speaking exclusively to IANS, Assistant Regional Transport Officer Ankit Shah highlighted how the state’s decision to slash road tax from six percent to one percent has removed a major financial hurdle for first-time EV buyers. Shah added that government subsidies on two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers have further sweetened the deal, prompting many families to trade in older petrol cars. On the ground in Surat, sales teams report heightened footfall from customers worried about fluctuating fuel prices amid global tensions. BYD dealer Shagun Soni said the outlet has already delivered sixty-five cars this quarter, with another twenty-five booked and awaiting dispatch. Soni observed that buyers are increasingly comparing warranty packages and real-world range figures rather than simply negotiating on sticker price. As more residential societies install wall-box chargers and highway corridors gain fast-charging plazas, confidence in daily usability continues to rise. Officials expect the trend to strengthen once upcoming state budget allocations earmark additional funds for public charging hubs.
