Stable policy framework and skilled workforce drive foreign semiconductor interest in India
According to a senior ministry official, the Indian government’s commitment to a transparent incentive scheme is a key factor encouraging foreign investment in semiconductors. Each project proposal is scrutinised to ensure that allocated public funds are justified and aligned with national priorities. The policy stability, combined with the country’s deep talent pool—home to roughly one‑fifth of the world’s semiconductor design talent—creates a compelling value proposition for multinationals. Training initiatives targeting 85,000 design engineers are already in place, and early results from pilot programmes suggest that Indian participants outperform peers in other regions. This talent advantage, paired with a policy environment that supports long‑term collaboration, is shaping India into a preferred destination for semiconductor research, design, and fabrication.
