Skilled Talent Key to India's Chip Ambitions, Says Priti Adani

Ahmedabad, October 24: Dr. Priti Adani, Chairperson of Adani University, has underlined that India's semiconductor mission needs closer cooperation between industry and academia, along with a steady supply of trained professionals.

She argued that cutting-edge factories alone cannot secure success. The country, she said, must also develop people who can design, develop and enhance intricate technologies.

Speaking at the Conclave on Hardware, Innovation, Processing and Semiconductor Technologies (CHIPS) 2026, organised by Adani University, she remarked, “The real yardstick of our technological advancement will be how thoughtfully we use human intelligence to shape a better tomorrow, not how smart our machines become.”

Specialists from Qualcomm, NXP Semiconductors, Micron Technology, Synopsys, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and Infineon Technologies attended the conclave. They discussed emerging opportunities and challenges in wireless technology, semiconductor design, memory and storage, power systems and the legal framework.

Three principal panel sessions were organised. The first looked at the future of semiconductor design in India and measures to strengthen the country's design strengths. The second explored manufacturing and how it will shape India's technological future. The third focused on career opportunities, essential skills and future career routes in the semiconductor ecosystem.

The conclave was conducted with the support of IIT Mandi, the VLSI Society of India and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. It drew representatives from the Gujarat State Electronics Mission, semiconductor firms and several educational institutions. The discussions emphasised creating better alignment between research, technical education and industry demands.

India's semiconductor aspirations are not confined to fabrication. They are equally built on developing global expertise in chip design, manufacturing and packaging.

The India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) has provided momentum, while projects in Dholera and Sanand are making Gujarat a prominent centre for the sector.

The conclave further noted that the rapid spread of artificial intelligence (AI) is raising demand for advanced chips, data centres and reliable energy infrastructure, which makes the semiconductor industry increasingly vital.

Adani University announced that its proposed multidisciplinary global campus in Ahmedabad will build specialised strength in semiconductor design, manufacturing and packaging. Planned initiatives include special programmes for young engineers, executive education for industry professionals and faculty development programmes.

The university's aim is to connect academic instruction and research directly with industry needs, thereby preparing the future talent that India's semiconductor ecosystem requires.
