Sitharaman's Bangkok Trip Focuses on Economic Cooperation and Investment

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman reached Bangkok on Thursday to attend the IMF and World Bank’s annual gatherings. Welcomed by India’s ambassador and officials from Thailand’s Treasury Ministry, she is set to engage in a series of high‑level discussions.

The schedule features the G20 and G7 finance ministers meet‑ups, as well as the FMCBG conference, where senior officials will examine the state of the global economy, financial stability and policy coordination. Sitharaman will highlight India’s growth story and its ongoing structural reforms.

A series of bilateral meetings have also been arranged. The minister will converse with Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekanit Nitisupapak, followed by talks with finance leaders from Switzerland, Japan, Luxembourg, Bhutan and Qatar. Additional engagements include a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and a dialogue with the Governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.

Sitharaman will participate in several side events, such as an Atlantic Council Fireside Chat on “Developed India 2047” and a German‑hosted session titled “Working Together to Make Cities Investable – Mobilising Private Capital for Urban and Water Infrastructure”. These platforms are intended to promote India’s investment climate, trade resilience and its vision for deeper integration with ASEAN and other global partners.
