Sectoral winners and laggards in India’s bullish week
During the fourth straight week of market gains, the winners and laggards across sectors painted a clear picture of investor preferences. Real‑estate, pharma and healthcare stocks posted the strongest returns, reflecting optimism around domestic demand and stable earnings.
In contrast, PSU banks and energy companies struggled to keep pace, weighed down by concerns over credit quality and volatile commodity prices. The technology sector, however, managed a solid recovery as investors bet on increased short‑covering and the expanding adoption of artificial intelligence solutions by Indian IT firms.
The breadth of the rally was evident in the performance of the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100, which rose 0.64% and 2.05% respectively, underscoring that the enthusiasm was not confined to large‑cap names alone.
Analysts point to the combination of falling oil prices, softer U.S. data and expectations of a more accommodative global rate environment as the key catalysts that lifted sentiment throughout the week.
