SEBI advisory urges verification of fund transfer requests on messaging apps

The regulator stresses that instructions received via WhatsApp, email, Microsoft Teams or any social platform should never be acted upon without independent confirmation. SEBI also warns against opening executable or compressed files attached to such messages until the sender’s identity is fully authenticated. In addition, organisations are recommended to regularly log out of inactive WhatsApp Web sessions to minimise the risk of account hijacking.
