Rising Costs of Ginger, Onion and Garlic Pressure Indian Economy

The sharp increase in staple vegetable prices is adding to cost pressures across the Indian economy. The PhD Chamber of Commerce and Industry highlighted that the surge in ginger, onion and garlic prices is affecting food processing, restaurant operations and related services.

At the same time, lower yields in sugarcane and a shift toward ethanol production have tightened domestic sugar supplies, pushing sugar prices higher. These dynamics are expected to keep inflationary pressures alive, especially as the fiscal year progresses.
