Rail Ministry Says Upgrade Will Aid Fast Trains Like Vande Bharat Express

The Rail Ministry announced that the newly approved traction enhancement in the Nanded division will strengthen power availability for high‑speed services.

By swapping the old single‑circuit 25 kV supply for a dual‑circuit 2×25 kV system across 164 km, the corridor will be better equipped to run trains such as the Vande Bharat Express without power interruptions.

Modernised substations and reinforced feeder lines will handle the increased electrical load, ensuring smoother operation for both freight and premium passenger trains.

Given that the Parbhani‑Mudhkhed stretch is part of Route‑9—a critical link joining Ajmer, Indore, Khandwa, Akola, Purna, Mudhkhed, Sikandarabad, Mahbubnagar and Dhan—the upgrade is expected to raise the line’s overall capacity.

The Ministry highlighted that the project supports the goal of moving 3,000 million tonnes of freight by FY 2029‑30 and reinforces the broader push to modernise India’s rail electrification.

In addition to freight gains, the stronger traction network will provide a more reliable backbone for future high‑speed services across the region.
