Minister Ajay Dharam Singh pushes for practical space science exposure in schools

In a bid to shift science education from theory to hands‑on experience, Karnataka’s Science and Technology Minister Ajay Dharam Singh has sought collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation. Speaking with ISRO Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan, the minister outlined a plan to hold interactive sessions where students meet ISRO scientists, discuss space research, satellite applications and career pathways.

The state’s outreach already includes a mobile digital planetarium that has serviced 3,282 schools, impacting more than 546,000 students and teachers. The Providing Access to Telescopes (PAT) scheme further equips schools and colleges with telescopic equipment and provides specialised training for science teachers. The next phase will introduce the ISRO scientist‑student dialogue programme across Karnataka’s network of science centres, making space technology education accessible to learners in every district and taluk.
