Power infrastructure boost as L&T lands multi‑country transmission projects
Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission & Distribution business has been awarded a batch of mega‑size EPC contracts that together could be valued at ₹15,000 crore. The orders, spread across India, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, are aimed at expanding transmission capacity and facilitating the integration of renewable generation.
The Saudi Arabian assignment includes the supply and erection of 380 kV transmission lines and the construction of associated substations. In the UAE, L&T will develop a 132/11 kV substation and execute all related cable‑installation works, bolstering the country’s power‑distribution framework.
Within India, a leading private‑sector developer in Visakhapatnam has hired L&T to provide a complete transmission system, covering both high‑voltage lines and substation infrastructure.
According to Joji Sebastian, executive vice‑president of PT&D, the portfolio of contracts reflects the company’s extensive engineering expertise and its ability to deliver sophisticated grid solutions in varied terrains. He added that the pressing need to reinforce grids and accommodate an increasing share of renewable energy is unlocking fresh avenues for growth.
The PT&D segment delivers EPC and full‑life‑cycle services for transmission corridors, substations, underground cable networks, distribution grids and power‑quality improvement projects. The company’s shares on the BSE rose 0.93 percent to close at ₹3,727, with an intraday high of ₹3,745.
