PM E‑Drive Extension Promises ₹5,000 Support for Electric Scooters

The PM E‑Drive programme, aimed at encouraging electric mobility, has been prolonged to 31 March 2028, giving the sector an additional two years of financial backing. Under the updated terms, purchasers of electric two‑wheelers acquired between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2028 are eligible for a subsidy calculated at ₹2,500 per kilowatt‑hour, with a ceiling of ₹5,000 per vehicle. The subsidy applies only to scooters whose ex‑factory price does not exceed ₹1.5 lakh. The scheme carries a total outlay of ₹11,900 crore and intends to assist up to 4.579 million electric two‑wheelers, with ₹2,767 crore earmarked for direct subsidies. The incentive level is lower than the FY 2024‑25 rate of ₹10,000 per scooter, but it remains limited to 15 % of the vehicle’s price, whichever is lower. As a fund‑constrained plan, the scheme will close once the allocated budget is depleted, and the final date for claim submission is 31 December 2027.
