Pension Grievances to Be Addressed Proactively, Minister Announces Reforms

During a national seminar on pension disputes, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that the focus of pension administration must shift from post‑court resolution to proactive policy modification. He pointed out that recurring legal battles signal the need to revisit certain pension rules. The minister called for a systematic review of common complaints across regions, treating them as indicators of policy gaps rather than isolated incidents. Recent policy changes, including the simplification of eligibility for widowed daughters and the amendment of legacy family pension provisions, have already curbed the necessity for prolonged court cases, rendering pension benefits more humane and inclusive. Dr. Singh advocated for a research‑oriented approach, requesting all concerned departments to analyse litigation trends and stakeholder feedback to identify shortcomings in existing regulations. He also stressed that grievance redressal should serve as a tool for policy improvement, not merely complaint settlement. To bolster these efforts, the ministry unveiled a new case‑law compendium on pension lawsuits and a "Special Campaign 3.0" flyer aimed at strengthening case management and enhancing citizen‑centric pension services. According to departmental data, the Litigation Information Management System has seen a roughly 20% reduction in pension dispute cases over the past year, while the Centralised Pension Grievance Redressal and Monitoring System portal has brought average resolution time down to under 20 days.
