October Coal Deliveries Boost Power Generation Across India
The ministry’s data points to a notable acceleration in coal transportation during the first ten days of October 2026. On average, 469 rail‑equivalent cars (REK) were loaded each day for the power sector, up from September’s 426 REK – a rise of roughly ten percent.
This surge raised the actual daily coal supply to 2.49 million tonnes, compared with September’s 2.21 million tonnes. In most October days, the real supply exceeded the planned target, and nine out of ten days saw higher‑than‑scheduled deliveries.
Enhanced logistics have helped curb the rate at which inventories fell. While September saw a monthly reduction of 7.28 million tonnes, October’s first ten days only lost 0.56 million tonnes, indicating that faster coal loading is stabilising reserves.
