Despite rising global concern over the Ebola outbreak in Africa, India remains free of the deadly virus, Health Minister JP Nadda assured the public on Monday. Speaking after reviewing national preparedness measures, Nadda highlighted that India has not recorded any Ebola infections to date. However, following emergency declarations by global health bodies, the government has moved swiftly to reinforce surveillance systems across the country. Coordinated efforts are underway involving multiple agencies including the National Centre for Disease Control, Directorate General of Health Services, Indian Council of Medical Research, and civil aviation authorities. Screening measures have been intensified at all international airports and border points, with clear guidelines issued to states on handling potential cases. Standard operating procedures now cover everything from initial screening and laboratory testing to quarantine protocols and infection control. Regular coordination meetings have been held with state health departments to ensure uniform readiness. The minister has asked health secretaries and directors of key institutions to maintain continuous monitoring and ensure all systems are primed for immediate action. Health workers at airports have been instructed to flag and report any traveler showing symptoms such as unexplained fever. The focus remains on prevention, early detection, and swift containment to protect citizens from the high-fatality viral hemorrhagic fever.
