NM-ICPS Fosters Startups, Creates 24,000 Jobs Through Innovation Hubs

New Delhi, August 31 – The National Mission for Interdisciplinary Cyber‑Physical Systems (NM‑ICPS) is delivering on its promise to convert research breakthroughs into economic growth. According to a fact sheet released on Monday, the mission has nurtured 1,136 startups and spin‑off companies, which together have generated more than 24,000 employment opportunities.

The mission’s ecosystem is built around Technology Innovation Hubs and Translational Research Parks that blend technology development, talent cultivation, and entrepreneurship. More than 2.46 lakh professionals have already been trained, equipping the workforce with the skills required for sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, mining, cyber security, advanced communications, and positioning services.

Intellectual property creation and licensing are also receiving strong emphasis, with the mission supporting the filing and commercialisation of patents arising from its research programmes. The Chanakya Fellowship programme, a key component highlighted in the fact sheet, has awarded 5,824 fellowships to students and researchers at all academic levels, fostering solutions to real‑world challenges in cyber‑physical systems.

Across India, 25 Technology Innovation Hubs have been established within leading universities, each operating as a Section‑8 company. These hubs work on four pillars: technology development, skill and human resource upliftment, innovation and startup incubation, and international collaboration.

By providing a unified national framework, NM‑ICPS links academia, industry, government, and global partners, ensuring that scientific discoveries are aligned with national priorities and market demand. Officials assert that this comprehensive approach—from research and development to product manufacturing and venture creation—will propel India toward a leadership role in cyber‑physical systems, artificial intelligence, automation, and other frontier technologies.
