New RBI Committee to Review Financial Market Operations and Policies

The Reserve Bank of India has rolled out a dedicated consultative forum to bridge communication gaps with financial market participants. The Technical Consultative Committee for Financial Markets will operate on a quarterly schedule, led by Deputy Governor Rohit Jain.

Comprising seven external representatives, the committee draws expertise from major banks, clearing institutions, market federations, and financial technology firms. The goal is to create a continuous feedback loop between monetary authorities and market operators.

Industry veterans Anant Narayan, Shamsher Singh, Neeraj Gambhir, Shailendra Jhingran, Aditya Bagri, Nand Kishore, and Ritham Desai have been appointed to guide the panel. Their collective experience spans fixed income, treasury management, commercial banking, and capital markets infrastructure.

The body will systematically examine liquidity conditions, operational efficiency, and structural flexibility across government securities, money markets, forex, and derivative segments. Through rigorous analysis, members will recommend measures to enhance market depth and ensure smoother price discovery.

Regulatory compliance, trading mechanisms, clearing procedures, and settlement workflows will undergo continuous review. The committee will also monitor the rollout of central bank reforms and troubleshoot unforeseen market friction. By evaluating domestic and global financial innovations, the panel will help mitigate emerging systemic risks.

The central bank can direct the committee to investigate targeted market issues or wider economic themes. This institutionalized engagement framework underscores the RBI commitment to fostering a transparent, responsive, and highly efficient financial ecosystem.
