New Integrated Cyber Coordination Centre to tackle e‑rickshaw battery threats

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology announced the operational launch of the National Cyber Coordination Centre (NCCCC), a unified hub designed to monitor and respond to cyber‑related incidents affecting e‑rickshaw battery systems.

Located under the National Security Council Secretariat, the centre coordinates with the National Cyber Security Coordinator to ensure seamless communication across ministries, state agencies, and private sector partners. Its mandate includes real‑time analysis of cyber threats, rapid dissemination of alerts, and collaborative incident response.

As part of the framework, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (ICERT‑IN) has been tasked with handling incidents under Section 70B of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The centre also works closely with the National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre, established under Section 70A, to safeguard essential information assets.

The government's crackdown on unauthorized e‑rickshaw battery apps aligns with the broader consumer protection agenda, reinforced by the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. This legislation now encompasses digital products and services, ensuring that end‑users receive adequate safeguards against malicious software.

To bolster public awareness, the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) initiative distributes educational content on cyber hygiene through multiple government portals, targeting both urban and rural demographics.
