New ICI series adds iron ore, raising core sector count to nine

The latest revision of the ICI introduced iron ore as a standalone component, expanding the core‑industry basket from eight to nine items. The change, implemented in the current series, reflects the metal’s growing importance in manufacturing and infrastructure development. Alongside iron ore, steel and refinery products showed modest gains of 2.9 percent and 2.7 percent respectively.
