National Gokul Mission Expanded to Raise Livestock Productivity

The Ministry announced an extension of the National Gokul Mission (NGM), originally launched in December 2014. The mission aims to conserve indigenous cattle breeds, improve genetic stock, and boost per‑animal milk yield. By promoting selective breeding and better animal health, the government expects a measurable rise in farmer incomes and long‑term livestock security.

Officials emphasized that superior breeds can deliver higher milk volumes, thereby narrowing the gap between production costs and market prices. The expanded NGM also aligns with biodiversity goals, safeguarding native cattle varieties for future generations.
