New multi‑layer verification system to prevent repeat of hub‑and‑spoke immigration lapses

In response to the recent immigration breach involving three Italian citizens, the Ministry of Civil Aviation is working with Air India to introduce a multi‑layer verification mechanism.

The proposed system will embed checks at various stages of the travel journey – from boarding‑pass issuance and routing to segregation inside the terminal and movement through transfer points.

Officials also plan to integrate the DigiYatra platform and assess the role of airline and ground‑handling staff at each transfer node.

The aim is to create redundant safeguards that ensure no passenger can bypass immigration clearance, thereby reinforcing the safety‑first mantra of the ministry.
