Maruti Suzuki Sets Rail Delivery Record at 30 Lakh Vehicles

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, India's leading passenger car maker, announced a groundbreaking record on Wednesday: over 30 lakh vehicles delivered via Indian Railways. This feat marks a significant stride in the company's green logistics initiative, prioritizing sustainability over traditional road haulage. Over the last 10 years, the automaker has steadily ramped up rail's role in its logistics chain. From a modest 5% share in FY 2014-15, rail now handles 26.5% of dispatches in FY 2025-26—a testament to deliberate infrastructure investments and policy alignment. The most recent milestone, crossing from 20 lakh to 30 lakh rail-transported vehicles, was achieved in just 21 months. This acceleration represents the quickest addition of 10 lakh units ever recorded in Maruti's rail history. Commenting on the success, Hashashi Takeuchi emphasized its importance in the green journey. Rail usage has grown nine times since 2014, now exceeding 25% of total transports. A massive commitment of over 13,720 million rupees will fund specialized green logistics setups. The executive commended the PM Gati Shakti plan for building robust multi-modal systems that have propelled industry-wide rail adoption. Future plans include hitting 35% rail share by FY 2030-31, bolstered by a new in-plant siding at the Kharkhoda plant. This addition will slash emissions, conserve fuel, and alleviate highway traffic. Uniquely, Maruti boasts rail sidings at its Hansalpur and Manesar plants—India's only such setups for passenger vehicles, PM Gati Shakti-enabled, with 7.5 lakh annual capacity. Operating via 22 hubs in a hub-and-spoke framework, the network serves more than 600 cities, ensuring efficient, nationwide reach. Maruti's rail revolution is redefining automotive logistics for a sustainable era.
