The Petroleum Ministry issued a correction on Friday regarding a recent misstatement during a press conference. Officials had inadvertently claimed 4.05 lakh new LPG connections were added in the last five weeks—a figure that actually represents Piped Natural Gas (PNG) activations.
‘We clarify that this is PNG data, not LPG. Apologies for the oversight,’ the ministry noted. Currently, 4.05 lakh PNG connections are operational, alongside registrations from 4.41 lakh new users.
LPG distribution remains uninterrupted nationwide, unaffected by international pressures. No distributor is facing dry-outs. To promote sustainability, the government is pushing for PNG adoption and electric cooking solutions, alongside calls for prudent energy use.
Citizens are warned against hoarding petrol, diesel, or LPG out of fear, and to trust verified channels only. Digital booking for LPG is now at 98 percent, with 92 percent of deliveries verified through codes, minimizing fraud at the ground level.
Essential services like hospitals and schools receive top priority for LPG and PNG supplies. Anti-hoarding drives have gained momentum: Thursday saw 3,800+ raids yielding 450 seized cylinders. Overall, 1.2 lakh operations have confiscated 57,000 cylinders, filed 950+ FIRs, and led to 229 arrests.
Oil majors have enhanced monitoring, serving 2,100+ show-cause notices, penalizing 204 distributors, and revoking 53 licenses. Over 18,000 consumers have voluntarily surrendered LPG links for PNG via online portals.
Refineries are running full throttle with robust crude reserves. Fuel stocks for petrol, diesel, and ramped-up LPG production ensure seamless domestic supply.
