Life Insurance Corp Leads Gains While Others Fall in Week‑End Trading

Mumbai, August 16 – In the latest round of market activity, five of the country’s top‑ten listed companies collectively lost a staggering ₹1 lakh crore in market capitalisation as investors sold off shares across the board.

The Sensex slipped 489.92 points, down 0.62 percent to 78,009.25, and the Nifty dropped 204.65 points, a 0.83 percent fall to 24,366.00.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) endured the largest decrease, with its market cap falling by ₹34,263.28 crore to ₹8.53 lakh crore. Reliance Industries also saw its valuation dip by ₹31,869.13 crore, landing at ₹17.70 lakh crore.

State Bank of India’s market capital shrank by ₹25,891.88 crore, moving to ₹9.86 lakh crore. HDFC Bank lost ₹7,165.37 crore, reaching ₹11.21 lakh crore, while ICICI Bank’s valuation fell by ₹2,792.65 crore to ₹10.18 lakh crore.

On the upside, the balance of the top‑ten added about ₹55,149.45 crore to their combined market values.

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) emerged as the top performer, gaining ₹26,438.49 crore to achieve a market cap of ₹5.23 lakh crore. Bharti Airtel posted a rise of ₹20,592.13 crore, crossing the ₹12.43 lakh crore threshold. Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro, and Hindustan Unilever also recorded gains of ₹3,548.79 crore, ₹2,490.66 crore, and ₹2,079.38 crore respectively.

At the week’s end, Reliance retained its place as India’s most valuable company, followed by Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, TCS, Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro, LIC and Hindustan Unilever.
