Joint venture in Bangalore to develop next‑gen helicopter engine for Indian Army

In addition to the LEAP contract, HAL and Safran announced a joint venture headquartered in Bangalore to design, develop and produce a next‑generation helicopter engine designated ‘Aravali’. The engine is intended for the Indian Army’s future 13‑tonne Indian Multi‑Role Helicopter (IMRH). The venture will combine Safran’s propulsion expertise with HAL’s manufacturing base, aiming to deliver a home‑grown powerplant that meets military performance requirements while strengthening indigenous defence technology.
