Japanese investors see opportunities in India’s push to $30 trillion by 2047

Tokyo, August 25 – In a conference attended by senior leaders from Japan’s premier financial houses, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry outlined the country’s ambitious economic roadmap. The minister reaffirmed that India posted a 7.7 percent growth rate last year and remains steadfast in its goal to attain a $30 trillion economy by 2047.

The discussion revolved around strengthening sustained capital streams, deepening collaborative investment structures, and enhancing Japan’s contribution to India’s development agenda. Participants included senior officials from MUFG, Development Bank of Japan, Mizuho, Morgan Stanley, Nomura and Nippon Life.

Key strengths cited were a resilient banking sector, solid capital adequacy, low levels of non‑performing assets, an expanding middle‑class population and increasing disposable incomes – all of which underpin the nation’s growth engine.

The minister highlighted a suite of high‑growth sectors that present attractive entry points for Japanese capital: semiconductor production, artificial intelligence, data‑center ecosystems, renewable energy projects, green hydrogen, advanced manufacturing and digital infrastructure. India’s rising renewable‑energy capacity and a modern national grid are expected to support the energy demands of a flourishing digital economy, while the India Semiconductor Mission is creating fresh manufacturing and technology prospects.

India regards Japan as a dependable partner on its journey to become a global manufacturing, technology and investment centre. The meeting also examined the potential of GIFT City to serve as a platform for international capital inflows and to accelerate cross‑border investment between the two nations.

The dialogue is timely, as both countries aim to lift Japanese private investment in India to the equivalent of 10 trillion yen over the coming decade.
