India’s UPI Ecosystem Expands Globally as Transaction Value Surpasses ₹29 lakh crore
The latest NPCI data highlights not only domestic growth but also the international reach of India's Unified Payments Interface. With a transaction value of 29.88 lakh crore rupees in July 2026, UPI is now operational in more than eight countries, including the UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius and Sri Lanka.
Deputy Finance Minister Pankaj Chaudhary explained that NPCI International Payments Limited, a wholly‑owned subsidiary created in April 2020, is forging partnerships worldwide to enable Indian travelers and overseas Indians to make seamless cross‑border digital payments. Partner nations are also benefiting from shared expertise in building real‑time payment rails and domestic card ecosystems.
The expansion reinforces India's position in the global fintech arena, as UPI’s model is being replicated and adapted across diverse markets.
