Space Economy Expected to Reach $45 Billion as India Accelerates Tech Advancements

At a media conclave on August 9, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh outlined India’s remarkable progress in the space domain. He reported that the space economy, once a marginal segment, has expanded to an estimated $9 billion and is on track to achieve $40‑45 billion within the next eight to nine years.

The growth, he explained, stems from decisive policy actions, notably the 2020 decision to open the space sector to private investment. This move unlocked new avenues for innovation, commercial launches and satellite services, aligning India with global standards.

Dr. Singh linked the space sector’s momentum to broader national initiatives such as the National Quantum Mission and IndiaAI Mission, emphasizing that coordinated policy efforts are driving a multi‑sectoral technological surge.

He concluded that the convergence of AI, biotechnology, quantum research and a thriving space industry will propel India to a leadership role in the next wave of industrial transformation.
