India Orders Removal of Fraudulent Firebase Sites

Following a series of notices sent by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, Google received a directive to take down at least 57 Firebase‑hosted domains and associated databases that were implicated in phishing, malware delivery and financial scams. The removal order was issued after the agency linked these resources to fake banking portals and a counterfeit PM‑Kisan assistance site.

The government’s swift action reflects growing concerns over how cloud infrastructure can be weaponised. While Google has assured cooperation, the episode raises questions about the responsibility of platform providers to detect and block abuse.

Experts say that cloud providers must enhance automated scanning for deceptive content and improve reporting channels for law‑enforcement agencies. At the same time, they caution against blanket bans that could affect legitimate developers relying on Firebase for genuine applications.
