India’s First Private Orbital Rocket Vikram-1 to Carry Golden Tribute to Space Pioneers

Vikram-1, India’s first privately developed orbital launch vehicle, is scheduled for its debut flight from Sriharikota on July 18. In addition to delivering satellites to orbit, the rocket will transport a unique golden mini‑rocket bearing finely crafted figurines of three Indian scientific legends – Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Sir C.V. Raman, and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The tribute honors their contributions to the nation’s space program and aims to inspire future generations.

The launch vehicle’s orbital adjustment module relies on a fully 3‑D‑printed liquid engine, a first for any Indian orbital launch platform. Mission Agaman, the associated payload, also includes a laboratory‑grown diamond called “Cosmic Bloom,” which will orbit the Earth as an artistic statement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the mission on social media, describing it as a historic new chapter for India’s space journey. He urged citizens, especially young people, to watch the launch, use the #IndiaWithVikram1 hashtag, and send their best wishes to the Skyroot team, whose success could open new avenues for innovation and entrepreneurship in the Indian space sector.
