India Aims to Establish Multiple Advanced Chip Plants by 2030

The Independence Day speech reiterated India’s ambition to host a network of state‑of‑the‑art semiconductor fabs.

Under the Silicon Valley‑inspired "Semicon 2.0" programme, the government has earmarked Rs 1.27 lakh crore to fund chip design, machinery, raw materials, fabrication units, advanced packaging and skill development.

Industry leaders said this comprehensive investment will create a robust domestic supply chain, reducing reliance on imports and boosting export potential.

Chairman of the India Cellular and Electronics Association, Pankaj Mohindru, added that the plan dovetails with the "Sapta Dhara" vision to build an AI‑enabled workforce, ensuring India can compete in high‑value global value chains.
