The Union Textile Ministry has set an ambitious target of reaching a $350 billion valuation for India's textile and garment industry by the end of the decade. To achieve this, the government is pushing circular‑economy practices such as recycling fibers, retrieving waste, and investing in cleaner production technologies. Domestic textile turnover has surged from roughly ₹6 lakh crore in 2014‑15 to over ₹16 lakh crore today, underscoring robust sectoral growth. This expansion has created direct employment for more than 53 million people, and industry forecasts predict an additional two crore jobs in the next three years as sustainability projects scale up.
